How the battery charging cost calculator works

How much does it cost to charge an e-bike or e-scooter? Very little. A 500 Wh battery draws about 0.56 kWh from the wall, including charger losses. At $0.17/kWh (a typical US price) that is about $0.10 per full charge. At £0.25/kWh in the UK, it is about £0.14.

  1. Energy drawn from the wall = battery capacity × share of a full charge ÷ charger efficiency (typically 85 to 90%).
  2. Cost per charge = energy drawn (kWh) × your electricity price per kWh.
  3. Cost per distance = cost per charge ÷ range per charge. Annual cost uses your weekly distance × 52.

Results are estimates to help you plan and compare. Always follow your manufacturer's specifications, especially for charging, tire pressure and load limits. Found a problem with this tool? Let us know.
