A starting point. Fine-tune by ±5 to 10% for feel, and always stay within the minimum and maximum printed on your tire and rim.

How the tire pressure guide works

What tire pressure should I run? Not lower. Usually slightly higher than the same tire on a regular bike, because the bike is heavier. Use the combined weight of rider, bike and cargo, and stay within the minimum and maximum printed on the tire sidewall.

  1. Starting point: a load-based model in which the required pressure scales with the weight on each wheel and inversely with tire width.
  2. The rear wheel carries about 55 to 60% of the weight on most bikes, so it gets more pressure. E-bikes add the bike’s extra mass.
  3. Surface and tubeless adjustments lower pressure for grip and comfort. Results are always clamped to the safe range printed on your tire and rim. Never exceed the lower of those two maximums.

Results are estimates to help you plan and compare. Always follow your manufacturer's specifications, especially for charging, tire pressure and load limits. Found a problem with this tool? Let us know.

Tire pressure questions, answered

Should I run lower tire pressure on an e-bike?

Not lower. Usually slightly higher than the same tire on a regular bike, because the bike is heavier. Use the combined weight of rider, bike and cargo, and stay within the minimum and maximum printed on the tire sidewall.

Is lower pressure faster?

On rough roads and gravel, often yes. Overinflated tires bounce and lose energy to vibration. On smooth tarmac the difference is small. Too low risks pinch flats, rim damage and vague handling.
