Segway X260 vs Sur-Ron Light Bee X: a used buyer's guide
The old family resemblance is real. The current Light Bee X needs a different comparison.
The short answer
The Segway X260 is a close relative of the older Sur-Ron Light Bee, but it is not the same specification as a current Light Bee X. Segway's listed X260 has a 60 V, 32 Ah battery; Sur-Ron's UK 2026 Light Bee X lists 72 V, 35 Ah. Compare the exact year, battery condition, parts fitment and total price before buying. Neither bike has a published Riding Nexus Score yet.
Key takeaways
- The X260 shares Light Bee heritage, but current Light Bee X specifications have changed.
- An X160 and Light Bee S fill a smaller-bike role; they are not interchangeable models.
- A 60 V X260 upgrade listing does not establish compatibility with a 2026 72 V Light Bee X.
- Used battery condition, ownership proof and service history matter more than the launch-era top-speed claim.
- Both bikes are unrated in the Riding Nexus system until sufficient evidence supports a score.
If you are comparing a used Segway X260 with a new Sur-Ron Light Bee X, the year matters as much as the name. The X260 came from the older Light Bee family. Today’s Light Bee X has moved on. Start with the serial number and the seller’s evidence, not an old launch review.
Is the Segway X260 a Sur-Ron?
Segway New Zealand described the X260 in 2021 as an up-spec version of the pioneering Light Bee. That supports the family connection. It does not prove that every X260 component fits every later Light Bee X, or that a current Light Bee X will ride like an X260.
The same Segway article called the smaller X160 unique to Segway. It is fair to compare the X160’s role with the Light Bee S, but calling them identical would mislead a parts buyer. The published battery ratings differ: Segway’s X160 page says 48 V and 20 Ah; Sur-Ron UK’s Light Bee S page lists 50.4 V and 26 Ah for its later version.
X260 vs Light Bee X specifications
This table uses Segway’s published X260 specification and Sur-Ron UK’s 2026 Light Bee X listing. It is a cross-year comparison of maker claims, not a same-year test or measured performance.
| Specification | Segway X260 | Sur-Ron Light Bee X, UK 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Listed battery | 60 V, 32 Ah | 72 V, 35 Ah |
| Nominal energy from those labels | 1,920 Wh | 2,520 Wh |
| Listed peak motor power | 5 kW | 10 kW |
| Listed weight | 55 kg with battery | 59 kg |
| Listed wheels | 19-inch | 19-inch front, 18-inch rear |
| Riding Nexus Score | Not rated | Not rated |

That 600 Wh label difference is not a tested range difference. Battery age, usable capacity, controller limits, terrain and riding style all change real-world distance. See watt-hours and state of health before using a battery label to value a used bike.
What should a used Segway X260 buyer inspect?
Start with the seller’s proof of ownership and the model and serial labels. Compare them with the paperwork and look for a charger, keys or app access that belongs with that bike. The Segway X160/X260 manual describes app activation and binding. Ask the seller to demonstrate the bike’s current app and security state before paying; do not assume an unbound bike can be resolved later without their help.
-
Confirm the exact bike
Record the X260 model and serial number, battery label, charger label and any replacement controller or motor details. Check purchase records against them.
-
Ask about the battery
Request its age, storage history and any documented capacity test. A full charge indicator is state of charge, not evidence of state of health. Ask how a claimed health percentage was measured.
-
Inspect the chassis
Look for frame or swingarm damage, leaking suspension, worn bearings, brake condition, wheel damage and wiring repairs. Use a qualified mechanic for faults you cannot assess.
-
Check service and parts
Ask for receipts, fault history and the part numbers of upgrades. Verify each replacement with the maker for this exact model, year, voltage and connector.
-
Price the full purchase
Add the cost of missing or suspect battery, charger, tires, brakes and likely service to the asking price before comparing it with another bike.
Do Sur-Ron parts fit the Segway X260?
Some suppliers support both older 60 V Light Bee configurations and the X260. TORP’s compatibility FAQ lists its own kits for certain 60 V Light Bee and X260 bikes, but excludes X160, Light Bee S and the 2026 72 V Light Bee X. This is a statement about TORP’s kits, not blanket interchangeability. Segway’s parts catalog labels other parts by supported model.
Use our parts fitment glossary when reading an upgrade listing. Match the model year, electrical voltage, connector, dimensions and part number. A listing saying “Light Bee” alone is too broad to settle fitment.
Which one makes sense?
The X260 can make sense if a seller can demonstrate a sound battery, clear ownership, available parts for its exact build and a total cost that accounts for service. The current UK Light Bee X offers newer published hardware and a maker listing, but its higher nominal battery energy and peak power do not guarantee a particular riding range or value for your use. Compare a specific used X260 with a specific new or used Light Bee X, including year, condition and local support. If you want to estimate electricity cost, the Battery Charging Cost Calculator accepts the battery’s labelled capacity and your electricity rate; it does not estimate battery replacement or repair costs.
How we made this comparison
Source-checked November 3, 2026. We compared manufacturer support pages, manuals, the current UK Light Bee X listing and a parts maker’s compatibility statement. We have not tested, inspected or scored either bike. The UK 2026 specification may differ from other markets and years. No brand supplied this article or paid for placement, and there are no affiliate links. Recheck specifications, parts availability and safety information before purchase; review these sources within 90 days or after a model change.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Segway X260 a Sur-Ron Light Bee X?
It belongs to the same older Light Bee family, and Segway itself described the X260 as an up-spec version of the Light Bee. That does not make it identical to every bike sold as a Light Bee X. Check the exact year and component specifications. The current UK 2026 Light Bee X uses a 72 V system, while Segway lists the X260 at 60 V.
Is the Segway X160 the same as the Light Bee S?
They occupy a similar smaller-bike position, but their published specifications differ. Segway lists the X160 at 48 V and 20 Ah; Sur-Ron's Light Bee S page lists 50.4 V and 26 Ah for its later version. Segway's 2021 description also called the X160 unique to Segway. Compare actual parts before treating either as a substitute.
Are X260 parts interchangeable with a 2026 Light Bee X?
Some do, but compatibility must be checked part by part. TORP lists its own kits as compatible with certain 60 V Light Bee and X260 bikes, while excluding X160, Light Bee S and 2026 72 V Light Bee X configurations. Segway's parts store labels other items by model. Match the part number, voltage, connectors and year with the supplier before purchase.
Does the Segway X260 still have parts support?
Segway maintains an X260 support page and lists electric dirt bike parts online. Availability of any specific battery, controller or frame part can change, so check the live listing or ask a supplier using the bike's serial number. Do not assume a visible support page guarantees every future replacement part.
